Mt. Vernon Optimist Club provides Spring and Fall softball programs. Spring season is competitive with games & tournament, Fall for practice & games. If your child is age 3-4 y/o, they should sign up for T-Ball under our Baseball Spring season sport. There is no T-Ball in the Fall.
The below information is for the Spring 2021 season.
SOFTBALL COMMISSIONERS: Jessi Warner
REGISTRATION: Regular January 6 to March 27. We will generally not guarantee/honor coach and teammate assignment requests, except where a coach has their child on the team.
RATES: $90 regular, $105 late, $10 discount for second child and additional.
AGE DIVISIONS: The anticipated softball divisions are listed below with ages by December 31 (of prior calendar year for Spring season):

Notes:
If your child is just beginning with softball/baseball, has never played nor had skills/game instruction previously, and is of appropriate age (3-4 y/o) then sign up for T-Ball under the Baseball Spring sport rather than Softball 6u division. There is no Fall T-Ball.
If your child desires to play in a division other than designated by the age chart, then enter a special request notation during the mvoptimist.com player registration process.
LOCATIONS: Practices and games are the Fortville Memorial Park and Mt. Comfort Elementary School fields. In addition some may play at Fall Creek, Eastern Hancock and 12U at Greenfield.
PLAYER SKILLS EVALUATION: Evaluations will not be held this year.
HEAD COACHES AND TEAM SELECTION MEETING: Week of March 29. Location: Fortville Community Center, located in Memorial Park. Head Coaches only, no assistant coaches, kids nor players.
FIELD PREP: The designated home team is responsible for lining the fields before the game, away team for raking after the game.
PRACTICES: Begins Monday April 1.. You should receive an email from your team coaching staff regarding the practice schedule. Practice schedules are not posted on the MVOC website
Practices before the game schedule begins are at least once, maybe twice per week (one weekday night and on Saturday). Practice schedule is at coach's discretion. Practices may discontinue after the normal game schedule begins.
TEAM PHOTOGRAPHS: TBD. Details to be distributed via coaches.
GAME SCHEDULE: Begins Saturday, May 1. Game schedules will be posted on the MVOC website when available. The system sends game reminders one day prior to the primary and secondary account email addresses.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE. Usually occurs the weekend after the regular game schedule concludes. The schedule will be communicated by coaches direct to their teams after pairings are determined. The tournament schedule is not posted on the MVOC website. Teams may play more than one game a day with winners progressing to the final championship game.
VOLUNTEERING: For softball, there will be a concession stand parent rotation, each team provides one parent per game. These assignments will be made by the commissioner and coaches.
Mt. Vernon Optimist Club seeks new members to administer and operate our baseball, softball, soccer and basketball programs as well as academic programs such as written essay/Oratorical contests and administrative positions. If Optimist membership is not possible, your assistance with operations such as field preparation and concessions is appreciated. Volunteering can occur during player website registration on mvoptimist.com if the person is a member of the parent/guardian's website account. Special website procedures for a volunteer to sign up after the player's registration is completed, or if the volunteer has a separate website user account than that used to register a player. BALL DAY PARADE AND GAMES: Annually, usually the first Saturday of June, we have a float parade through Fortville. Each ball team designs, builds and rides on their float in a judged contest. The parade stages at Landmark Park and proceeds towards Main Street and concludes at Memorial Park, where vendor booths, inflatable slides/ball pit, and silent auction occurs. Food is sold at concession stands and vendor booths throughout the day. Games are played after the parade at both Memorial Park and Mt. Comfort Elementary.
